The client had lost their home in the wildfires that swept through Los Angeles. Faced with rebuilding from scratch, they made a decision that many wouldn't — to treat it not as a setback, but as a rare opportunity. An opportunity to build something that was genuinely theirs, designed with intention, and rooted in a place they had chosen to stay. They needed a team who could turn that resolve into a building.

The Brief

A five-bedroom home across three floors with a subterranean level, approximately 7,500 sq ft in total, rooted in the Spanish Revival tradition but reinterpreted for the present. The client wanted warmth, material depth, and a house that belonged to Los Angeles without defaulting to the expected.

Context’s Approach

Working alongside Los Angeles-based Architects and an international Interior Designer, Studio Context was engaged at concept stage to refine the volumetric study established by the project's architect and develop a coherent design language and styling to carry the project forward. The palette draws on landscape and tradition simultaneously — terracotta roof tiles, stone, and warm render, offset by slimline bronze framed glazing with minimal sightlines and discreet mullion detailing throughout. The architecture doesn't announce itself. It settles.

The Outcome

A concept with enough clarity and conviction to hand over. The form resolved, the material narrative established, and the detailing language defined - ready for the Los Angeles Architect to carry into technical delivery. A home rebuilt with care, from the ground up.
